The Intercontinental Music Awards brought together musicians from more than 65 countries.
Los Angeles, California. – Puerto Rican pianist and composer Juan Carlos Ferrer was recognized with the award in the Soundtrack category at the 15th edition of the world-renowned Intercontinental Music Awards.
The competition, which promotes cultural diversity in music, featured the participation of hundreds of artists from 68 countries, including the United States, Italy, Australia, Spain, Egypt, and Canada. Ferrer competed with his piece “Helping Hand,” a work that had already earned second place at the Film Music Contest in Slovakia.
“This piece is very special to me. I composed it during the pandemic as a tribute to Puerto Ricans and to that ability we have to lend each other a helping hand in times of adversity. The piece is part of Tarah’s repertoire in a symphonic version, and although it had already received recognition in another competition, I decided to submit it again — and the joy I felt when I heard my name among the winners was indescribable,” said Ferrer.
The awards ceremony took place in Los Angeles and was streamed virtually worldwide. Ferrer emphasized that the competition was even more challenging since the Soundtrack category was global, bringing together talent from all continents. In his acceptance speech, he thanked his family and colleagues for their constant support and reaffirmed his deep love for Puerto Rico.
“This year has been very significant for my music career. I recently completed the soundtrack for the short film The Talent Show, directed by Julie Ann Moreno, which has already been awarded in New York and Chile and is a finalist in France. Now this award is added to the list. I can’t complain. My goal is to continue contributing to cinema made in Puerto Rico,” he concluded.
